In recent years, there have been significant changes in various aspects of Hong Kong's environment. The young generation growing up, especially high school students, are the first to face and step into society under this huge transformation. Their future is also indicative of Hong Kong's future. He invited them to form a collaborative creative team and use a Super 8 film camera to showcase the world of this young generation and their vision for the future of Hong Kong.

Story Synopsis

“The World is Ours” is an independent documentary film project that focuses on high school students of the younger generation. The aim is to open a window that connects to the living conditions of this young generation. The director has met five Form Six students from different backgrounds, including traditional official schools, international schools, and art schools. They live in Hong Kong, and has undergone tremendous changes, yet they still present their living spaces and voices in their own unique ways. Some express themselves through artistic creation, some publish independent publications to promote local culture, and some advocate for gender equality through online platforms. Their commonality is that they all have a strong voice, but this era does not provide them with opportunities to express themselves.

Production Summary

The director invited five high school students from different backgrounds to participate in the filming and form a small creative group using Super 8 film as the creative medium. They would share the film camera and use it to share the world they see. The filming would start with their personal stories, where each person would face different life situations or express their own world. Each person would have their own unique expression. They would also include daily life moments, such as what they are doing and their life status. Then, the director would try to develop the commonality that the young generation face in this era from the personal stories. The following are the themes for the first round of filming: "Young people are the main force of exports, but their mouths are shut and buried in the ground. Does the better future that I hope for really exist? Am I really awake in the moment I'm living?" - Little Dog "Let's start again as children, observe the flowers, trees, and footprints, and see how dirty yet pure the soil is." - Cecilia "I grew up with the internet, but I can't figure out the good and bad in it. But through the connections of the internet, it has made me who I am today." - Nathan "The vitality of the city, from the bustling night markets, street food, and restaurant, to the nostalgic atmosphere of the dilapidated buildings... These are just a few of the distinctive cultural features. How do Hong Kong people find a sense of belonging in the midst of immigration, adapting to new environments, and mixed feelings of homesickness and isolation?" - Anna "How can we witness the regeneration of the city from its death?" - Coyote Former Chief Executive of Hong Kong, Carrie Lam, once said that young people in Hong Kong rebel because "they have no stake in the society" (they do not contribute to society and do not mind destroying Hong Kong's economy). Today's Hong Kong has silenced the voices of the younger generation. Instead of official discourse on what young people need for their "life planning," it's better for them to grasp their own words.
