Still Tomorrow
2017・China・88 minutes
In early 2015, the poem "Crossing Half of China to Sleep with You" went viral on the Internet, and the author Yu Xiuhua became famous overnight. An unknown rural woman from Hubei Province who suffered from cerebral palsy was suddenly hailed as "China's Emily Dickinson", and this was also the beginning of her collision with the shackles of disability and conservative values. The husband, who had been working outside for many years, threatened to get a divorce only if he got money. The mother who decided to get married at that time was seriously ill. Through the director's patient depiction, Yu Xiuhua's appearance gradually became three-dimensional. Her story simultaneously reflects the reality of patriarchal oppression in contemporary Chinese society, as well as the bizarre community and media landscape.
