A River Below
2017・Brazil・84 minutes
The pink river dolphin, which inhabits the Amazon Basin, is on the verge of extinction due to large numbers of people hunting catfish for bait. The two environmentalists took completely different actions: Wild Channel host Richard recorded the hunting images and spread them on television, which eventually led to the Brazilian government issuing a sales ban, but also ruined residents' livelihoods. What's even more debatable is that the original filming was Well designed! Fernando, a marine biologist, wants to use research data to publicly prove that this type of catfish contains high levels of mercury and is unfit for consumption, prompting the authorities to take action. Where are the boundaries of media ethics under the concept of conservation? What can be done to achieve true coexistence between humans and animals?
