The Dance Age
2003・Taiwan・112 minutes
"Back then, free love unions were reported!" What was Taiwan like in the 1930s? Pop songs have entered a golden age, and the foxtrot dance music from the United States has become very popular. Urban modern women sing the praises of "Nguyen is a civilized woman" (we are civilized women), dance to the rhythm, and have the courage to pursue what they love. "Sorrow on a Moonlit Night", "Flowers on a Rainy Night", "Spring Dreams by the River"...many popular ballads were composed at that time and are still sung today. Breaking away from the tragic perspective of being colonized during the Japanese colonial period, they used music as a cultural medium to outline a lively and colorful society and create an era of dance that belongs to them.
