"Wisdom and compassion can liberate us."
In 1950, the anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the Chinese Communist Party led its troops to liberate Tibet. The Dalai Lama, who was only 14 years old at the time, had to ascend the throne early. It was originally thought that New China could give Tibet a peaceful future, but in less than ten years, the Dalai Lama was forced to flee Tibet and begin his life in exile. In the days of displacement, the only thing that remained unchanged was his insistence on democracy and freedom. Directed by Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese, the film adapts the first half of the Dalai Lama's legendary life and received the Dalai Lama's personal approval and collaboration.
