Godard Cinema
2022・France・101 minutes
This film is divided into four chapters, dissecting what defines a “Godard film.” From his groundbreaking debut Breathless to the epic Histoire(s) du cinéma, a project ten years in the making, it gradually unveils the enigma of Godard, guiding audiences into a realm where art is both transcended and wholly embodied in flesh and spirit. Jean-Luc Godard, a master of the French New Wave, was the most radical revolutionary in film history. On September 13, 2022, he chose to undergo assisted suicide at his home in Switzerland, passing away at the age of 91. Over his lifetime, Godard made more than 140 films. He pioneered everything and challenged everything. His provocative style and romantic escapades frequently made headlines and stirred controversy. Yet understanding this legendary figure is no easy task. Godard existed in a solitude of his own making, connecting with others only when filming.
