A Little Wisdom

Lumbini, Nepal, is said to be the birthplace of the Buddha. A secluded temple in this area houses orphans until they turn 16. Brothers Berkeley and Zhuo Dan, abandoned since childhood, live here. Between dawn and dusk each day, they abide by strict monastic rules, yet they are also full of playfulness and harbor many imaginings about the world outside the temple. The director lived there for a full year, intimately documenting every detail of their lives through affectionate camera work, capturing the essence of time flowing by, and also chronicling the subtle transformations of the boys' youth.
