Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan: Moon Water

2022・Taiwan・68 minutes

Since its 1998 premiere, Water Moon has captivated audiences worldwide. Hailed by The New York Times as the "Dance Work of the Year," it has toured 22 countries, gracing prestigious venues like Sadler’s Wells, the Beijing National Centre for the Performing Arts, and major arts festivals in Sydney, Vancouver, and New York. Acclaimed as a "milestone in contemporary dance," it blends Tai Chi, mirrors, and flowing water to create mesmerizing imagery, where reality and illusion merge. Set to Misha Maisky’s performance of Bach’s Cello Suites, Lin Hwai-min’s choreography embodies the Buddhist concept: “Mirror flowers, water moon—ultimately, all is empty,” offering a moment of tranquility in a fast-paced world.
