A Young Patriot

19-year-old Xiao Zhao is a patriotic young man wearing military uniform on the streets of Pingyao Ancient City, holding a national flag and shouting "Come on China! Long live China!" This film follows and records his life, from his hometown of Pingyao to Chengdu, Sichuan, and then to the Liangshan Prefecture Yi Autonomous Region where he teaches. The camera witnesses his emotional transitions and changes in thoughts during the four years from high school to his sophomore year in college. Once an unconditional patriot, why did he later become an angry youth dissatisfied with society? From Xiao Zhao's perspective, the film presents the anxiety and restlessness currently experienced by Chinese society, and clearly contrasts the motives behind the official indoctrination of people's patriotism.
