The Wages of Resistance:Narita Stories

2014・Japan・141 minutes

In order to relieve Haneda Airport's increasingly unable capacity since the Tokyo Olympics and the outbreak of the Vietnam War, the Japanese government decided to build Narita Airport in the Sanrizuka area in 1966. This move triggered fierce protests by local farmers and received support from student movements and social activists from all over the country. , despite this, ultimately failed to stop the arbitrariness of the Sato cabinet. 45 years later, the original photographer of "Summer at Sanrizuka", Koushiro Otsu, revisited the scene. Faced with the cooling of passion and confusion about the success or failure of the movement, some of the remaining protesters gave up, while others still persisted. As the plane behind them rose and fell, their figures turned into a heavy indictment of state violence.
