In 1972, after 27 years of post-war U.S. military rule, Okinawa reverted to Japan. While working as a bartender in establishments that entertained Black American soldiers, young photographer Mao Ishikawa also picked up her camera to document the era she witnessed. Half a century later, she looks back at the romantic saga she personally experienced, exploring themes of history, politics, racial discrimination, and female empowerment within it.
