Hoping Hospital
2003・Taiwan・58 minutes
In 2003, when the SARS epidemic broke out, the government ordered the closure of Heping Hospital, which caused great physical and mental trauma to medical staff and highlighted the poor quality of Taiwan's medical system. The film interviews fifty people involved in the incident, and through multi-party conversations with epidemic prevention and control experts, medical staff, patients, and decision-making officials Ma Ying-jeou, Qiu Shuti, Su Yiren, and Tu Xingzhe, the gap between each other's opinions is clearly visible in front of the camera. The official heroism, the media's bloodthirsty and exaggerated reports, and the political suspicion of struggle... Perhaps the most frightening thing is not the virus itself, but human nature in the face of the unknown.
