Master Sheng Yen
2019・Taiwan・115 minutes
In the 1940s, when the fate of the Chinese nation, human dignity, and the dignity of Buddhism all hit rock bottom, a fourteen-year-old boy became a monk in Nantong, Jiangsu Province. From then on, he embarked on an endless process of seeking and spreading the Dharma for nearly seventy years. At the same time, it is also a process of pursuing the dignity of life and faith. The entire film uses a documentary form to reproduce the life stages of Master Shengyan and the waves of the times he experienced. It also breaks away from the missionary style of traditional religious films and faces the extraordinary life of Master Shengyan with a level-headed, down-to-earth, and normal attitude. This is exactly the kind of "this is what I hear" that is needed in the current era.
