Ximending, one of the oldest places in Taipei City. In 2001, the Ximen Market, built during the Japanese colonial period, was about to be demolished, and the old vendors who were as close as a family were forced to relocate. At that time, the Ximen neighborhood was booming, and gyms introduced trendy courses to attract consumers with great fanfare. The red envelope karaoke hall is a gentle place for old people who have nowhere to go to soothe their souls; the square stage is crowded with young and fanatical star-chasers. The younger generation and the declining Old Ximen people gather here. The strong contrast between old age and youth, loneliness and enthusiasm may be the reason why Ximending still retains its mysterious charm.
