My Native Land Once Again
2016・Taiwan・86 minutes
Three Taiwanese writers living in Japan, Qiu Yonghan, Chen Shunchen, and Wang Zhenxu, wrote novels in Japanese about Taiwan, Hong Kong, and China in different eras in Japan, and won Japan's "Naoki Prize". In contrast, Ikuko Okazaki, a Japanese professor who is obsessed with Taiwanese literature, studied 228 and Taiwanese literature as a foreigner in an era when the Japanese did not recognize that Taiwan had literature. Through documentary and fictional shooting techniques, we shuttle between space, place, hometown, and landscape, sort out the identity and contradiction between country and nationality, and explore the definition of hometown for everyone. It’s like throwing a question to the wandering wanderers: Where will the feelings for the hometown be?
