Pine Smoke
2003・Taiwan・63 minutes
If "Cursive" in 2001 was Lin Huaimin's first exploration into the aesthetics of calligraphy, then "Pine Smoke" published in 2003 was his further exploration of the realm of "ink divided into five colors" in calligraphy.
The dancer's body is left alone in the dance, transforming into the calligrapher's brushstrokes. The dancer starts out calm and graceful, and then suddenly leaps and bounds. The endless charm flows between the colorful glaze and the clear ink stains, echoing with John Cage's music that is like a spiritual rain from an empty mountain. Thousands of scenes outline the vast and ancient flow of time, as well as the aesthetic essence of "emptiness" and "nothing" in the East.
