On the Suzhou River in Shanghai, Ma Da, a delivery boy, took over the job of picking up and delivering the girl Mu Dan, and the two gradually fell in love with each other. Just when Mudan decided to entrust her life to Ma Da, Ma Da teamed up with the underworld to kidnap her, and she jumped into the Suzhou River in anger. Five years later, Ma Da was released from prison and met Meimei dressed as a blond mermaid in a bar, and she turned out to be exactly the same as Peony... This film is written and directed by the famous Chinese director Lou Ye. He uses literary narratives and narration to create poignant stories about urban little people.
