The director of this film was born in China, the second child when the one-child policy was implemented. In order to give birth to him, his father had to pay three years' salary. Nine years ago, the 26-year-old director moved to the Netherlands and, at the age of 31, returned to China, to his illicit childhood and the guilt of his parents paying a high price for his existence. As the director tried to mend his uneasy relationship with his parents, they insisted that he have children. Ironically, China's three-child policy has arrived.
