Gwai Lou is a Malaysia-based filmmaker, writer, plastic artist, and educator whose professional pseudonym—a Cantonese slang for “Western guy”—reflects his immigrant experience and fluid cultural identity. His cinema, halfway between digital realism, pop, and arthouse formalism, explores the microcosms of the working class and migrants, always from a first-person perspective and lived experiences.
