Longing is a mix of emotions that includes desire, frustration, happiness, and pain. It can be romantic, sad, or a blend of both. I remember as a teenager, having my first crush—lying on the grass on a long summer afternoon, thinking of someone I barely knew. That yearning was filled with hope, naivety, and innocence. Then there is a kind of longing where one doesn’t even know what they're yearning for—just a continuous feeling of dissatisfaction and quiet sadness. And, of course, there is the mad, passionate obsession with someone, where life feels impossible without the presence of their smell or touch. Each of these selected films evokes that deep, craving sensation—suffocating, overpowering, but also undeniably beautiful.
