Artificial Darkness & Nocturnal Sensorium
9 films
Borrowing concepts from the writings of Columbia University professor Noam M. Elcott and UC Berkeley’s Iggy Cortez, this curation invites us to re-enter the darkness. From the dimming of theater lights to the closing of bedroom curtains, cinema has always unfolded in artificial darkness. But when this darkness collides with the neon of city nights, the threats of a midnight alley, or the void of outer space, our senses are heightened, urging us to gaze into layered abysses, drifting between the screen and our own dreamlike wanderings. The darker the night, the more dazzling the light.
