Young Talent Shorts: Contemporary Narratives of Displacement and Belonging
This short film competition showcases the diverse voices of emerging Taiwanese filmmakers through ten compelling works exploring displacement and belonging. The first program examines diasporic experiences—from a Taiwanese American girl adapting to school life in Taiwan, to queer communities finding home in Germany, and families divided by migration. The second program delves into life's intimate transformations, presenting spiritual awakening, reflections on dignity in death, pregnancy loss amid political upheaval, and anticipatory grief. Together, these films create a nuanced tapestry of identity, memory, and home, illuminating the complex negotiations between displacement and belonging, trauma and healing that define contemporary Taiwanese experience.
