How High Is The Mountain
2001・Taiwan・56 minutes
"If everyone's first memory of the source of life is nostalgia, where is my nostalgia?" "Xiang" means Hunan, China, and "Bamboo" means Hsinchu, Taiwan. Tang Xiangzhu's name refers to his father and his own birthplace respectively, and also carries his father's longing for his hometown. When his son was born and his elderly father suffered a stroke, he decided to accompany his father back to his long-lost hometown. Even though I am completely unfamiliar with this place, it is an important part of my father's life; just like the future of a newborn son, I cannot fully participate in it. Faced with the helplessness and sadness of life's alternation, during this journey, he also looked for a place where he could put his nostalgia and his own life position.
