Riverside Fireworks
2023・Taiwan・12 minutes
The video work "Riverside Fireworks" was shot and published in Hiroshima in 2023. Hiroshima Motomachi is a representative public housing building with a long history in post-war Japan. The once avant-garde and dreamy building is now old, but it continues to carry the dreams of many new immigrants. This work was initiated and invited by Mahora Project, a non-profit art organization in Hiroshima, with the participation of local residents (dialogue reading). I wrote a story about separation and reunion. Through Motomachi’s framing and sound design, Candy Bird described a love/history that spanned decades, and served as a metaphor for Hiroshima’s ill-fated modern history.
