Farewell My Concubine
1993・Hong Kong・171 minutes
Cheng Dieyi was sold to a Peking opera troupe at an early age to learn how to sing Tsing Yi. She became famous after co-starring with her senior brother Duan Xiaolou in "Farewell My Concubine". Cheng Dieyi, who has gone through the revolutionary changes and struggled with gender recognition throughout his life, encountered double betrayal in love and life. When he performed "Farewell My Concubine" again 11 years later, Cheng Dieyi did not want to wake up from the dream, but only wanted to stay in the dream, like Yu Ji, who fell in blood-stained love forever, and died.
