The same goes for "Encore: Before Saying Goodbye"—here, eternity is left unmentioned; there is only the desire to perform one last song for oneself before the lights go down. The scars of youth, the terror at the edge of the boxing ring, the wordless closeness between strangers, and the farewells quietly practiced in daily life—six films, each rehearsing the very same question: If only an encore remains, what sound do you wish to leave behind?

The program ranges from the Cannes Film Festival, reflecting the latest pulse of world cinema, to the art of transforming life experiences into screenplays, and a retrospective look at the profound humanistic care and cinematic aesthetics in Akira Kurosawa's masterpieces. Through moving images, documentaries, and the intimate realities of individual lives, these works bring us closer to one another. Nearly one quarter of Canada’s population was born outside the country. Every path that leads someone here is far more than a straight line between two points. These paths may differ greatly, yet they resonate with one another. Centred on diaspora communities, this film series hopes to explore, through these works, the long negotiation with memory, language, identity, and belonging that people face after crossing national borders. Along these winding paths of migration, we are invited to rethink what home means. Equally important, we are invited to consider how we might better understand one another. The “Kaohsiung Shorts” Film Program is an annual initiative that selects emerging creators through an open call, encouraging diverse themes and creative expressions in short film production. To date, the program has supported over 100 works. The eight new short films from the 2023 cycle have gone through a one-year journey from initial concept to final creation. These films explore themes ranging from familial bonds and struggles, the desires and regrets of love, the resistance and confusion of growing up, to the fading and brilliance of life. Each piece offers a distinct perspective and cinematic language, carving out a fresh new chapter in the landscape of short film artistry.
The Korean Independent Animation Filmmakers Association (KIAFA) has established a distribution team called AniSEED, dedicated to protecting the rights of animation directors, safeguarding the copyrights of animated works, and actively advancing distribution and marketing efforts. The name "AniSEED" symbolizes the act of planting seeds, embodying a commitment to nurturing the boundless potential and vitality of independent animation. As KIAFA's distribution team for independent animation, AniSEED sets out on this journey with the goal of managing and preserving works while creating diverse screening opportunities. Guided by the philosophy of planting small seeds and patiently watching them grow, AniSEED is committed to cultivating a sustainable ecosystem for independent animation.
Collaborating with Giloo, Fresh Wave International Short Film Festival has created its own online streaming platform where the past short films will be launched in turn. This platform not only provides the audience with viewing the short films again but also strives for getting in touch with more people. The first-round released short films are those award-winning titles from international or local film festivals. There will be more features coming up. Please stay tuned with us!

The festival features a curated selection of cinematic works adapted from literary masterpieces, allowing words to extend onto the silver screen while images reflect upon the origins of writing. Along fragmented paths, we come to glimpse landscapes elsewhere. When these everyday moments brush against lived experience, we are suddenly carried back in dreams—to a past once lived in our homeland. By weaving together the experience of being away from home with what has already passed, a vision emerges that belongs to us alone, singular and unrepeatable. This film selection, jointly curated by enclave partners from different countries, reflects the concerns they observe through their own eyes. Within this rising enclave, we see, encounter, and exchange… and continue moving forward.
