Hacksaw Ridge
2016・United States・140 minutes
The story is adapted from the real experience of Desmond Doss, a military doctor during World War II. In the spring of 1945, World War II entered its final stage with the Pacific War, but the U.S. military encountered an unprecedented and brutal battle on Okinawa, with casualties on both sides exceeding 160,000! A soldier, Desmond Doss (played by Andrew Garfield), refused to take any weapons to the battlefield due to his beliefs and was ridiculed and bullied by his comrades many times. But when the superiors issued a retreat order and everyone in the部队 left, he was the only one who stayed behind, relying on his own strength to shuttle back and forth through the rain of bullets to save the lives of 75 seriously wounded comrades. In October of the same year, Doss received the Medal of Honor from President Truman, becoming the greatest World War II hero in American history.
