Lawrence, a British soldier who is fluent in Japanese, served as a translator in the Japanese prisoner camp. He often assisted the former sergeant in handling conflicts between the two sides, and thus established a subtle friendship. One day, Captain Sonoi, the commander of the prison camp, brought back Jack, a British prisoner of war.
