Chu Fu uses simple and ordinary arrangements to present the boy's life seemingly casually, but he depicts every hope and disillusionment of the boy with great detail. This film was the first shot of the French New Wave and the beginning of Chufu's series of coming-of-age films, "The Pentalogy of Anduano". ​​Because of its strong autobiographical color, it is generally considered to be Chu Fu's recollection of his childhood past.
