The 400 Blows
1959・France・100 minutes
Amidst all the setbacks at home and school, the boy Anrui walked towards the edge step by step and fell into a quagmire of life that was difficult to escape from. Chu Fu uses simple and ordinary arrangements to present the boy's life seemingly casually, but he depicts every hope and disillusionment of the boy with great detail. This film was the first shot of the French New Wave and the beginning of Chufu's series of coming-of-age films, "The Pentalogy of Anduano". Because of its strong autobiographical color, it is generally considered to be Chu Fu's recollection of his childhood past.
