In 18th-century Europe, the talented young female painter Marianne received a commission to complete a portrait of the wealthy young lady Heloise before her marriage without her knowledge. The two depended on each other on an isolated island. During the day, the female painter quietly observed the young lady's every move, and only at night did she indulge in painting.
