Stranger in the Mountains

2016・Taiwan・140 minutes

During the civil war between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party, a group of guerrilla troops from the Republic of China who fled to the Thai-Myanmar border partially withdrew to Taiwan in 1961 and were distributed to the Cingjing mountainous area to reclaim wasteland. Those who did not withdraw from Taiwan became Thai mercenaries in exchange for status, and worked on the Thai-Laos border guarding Doi Pha Tang mountain. The same group of communities with a shared future left over from the war, living in two places respectively, 50 years later, present two different humanities, with their own national views, and their next generation is also faced with conflicting identity issues.
