In March 2015, Shiori Ito, an ambitious young journalist, was sexually assaulted by Yamaguchi Noriyuki, a senior figure with significant influence in Japanese politics and media. While the #MeToo movement was gaining global momentum, challenging the unfriendly attitudes towards victims, Ito faced immense criticism and blame. From her attire at press conferences to the content of her claims and unfounded accusations, the overwhelming pressure nearly broke her. Despite knowing silence would be the easiest option, she chose to fight back against Japan's outdated laws and conservative public opinion regarding sexual assault, embarking on a long and arduous journey. Her actions were not only to heal her own trauma but also to pave the way for other Japanese women to bravely stand up and speak out.
