Pelican: 74 Years of Japanese Tradition
2017・Japan・80 minutes
The "Pelican" bakery (Pelican), located in the Asakusa corner of Tokyo, is the most extraordinary scenery on this ordinary old street. There was a long queue outside the store early in the morning. Neighbors and tourists were all attracted by the fragrant bread. After operating for four generations and with a history of 77 years, Pelican Bakery has insisted on selling only two kinds of bread: white toast and meal bread for many years; its craftsmanship in exploring the essence of bread has also brought legend to this store. The film shows the secret of how they maintain "the same" amidst changes, not only the secret of bread, but also the Japanese attitude and spirit towards tradition.
