The Road

In 2009, construction of a nearly 100-kilometer highway started in Hunan. The cost of this road was high, and many outsiders and various construction machinery who were engaged in road construction flocked here like a tide. The director lurked for three years and observed the living conditions of migrant workers, contractors, officials and local residents. When the highway was built, along with various frequent industrial safety accidents, protests, and gang involvement, the mountains, rivers, history, and culture were also completely destroyed. Under the process of rapid modernization, the grand construction spectacle was finally completed, but it also formed an absurd and tragic fable of the times.
