The New Bauhaus

2019・United States・89 minutes

László Moholy-Nagy was one of the leading figures of the avant-garde art movement in the early 20th century. As a multidisciplinary artist, he was radical, pioneering, and experimental. In the 1920s, he was an important teacher in the early days of the Bauhaus School in Germany, but his modernist and abstract concepts of art and thought were not popular in Germany at the time due to the rise of the Nazi Party. Therefore, he stayed in Amsterdam and London before finally seizing the opportunity to come to the booming Chicago, where he established the "New Bauhaus: American School of Design," which is now the Illinois Institute of Technology's College of Design. This film will take the audience on a journey about the life and achievements of Moholy-Nagy, and deeply understand the experiments and influence of this epoch-making artist in the fields of design, painting, photography, sculpture, and film, as well as his inseparable history with the New Bauhaus.
