A Moon Made of Iron
2017・France・Chile・29 minutes
Three deceased people were floating in the Strait of Magellan in South America, wearing life jackets and bundled with mobile phones, computers, passports and food. Two were malnourished, one suffered from scurvy and typhus, and the whereabouts of the other are unknown. This is a film that is both political and personal. Four Chinese people try to cross the strait to escape their long-term exploitation, but disappear into the sea... It begins with a poem by Chinese poet Xu Lizhi, a Foxconn worker who committed suicide by jumping off a building, as a sad simile. The story of death is shrouded and reverberating, and what appears to be a mirage of the underwater world is frightening beneath its beautiful surface.
