Southland Soldiers (Director's Version)
2014・Taiwan・55 minutes
In 1961, the last batch of guerrilla troops who retreated from Myanmar to Taiwan settled on the banks of the Linong River, sandwiched between the Hokkien ethnic groups, and lived in isolation from the outside world. Most of the women and children among them had special missions during the guerrilla war in Burma. Ma Youfu joined the guerrillas at the age of 10, carrying a rifle taller than him and roamed the mountains. Zhao Quanying joined the army at the age of 15 as a female political worker, responsible for propaganda and labor behind enemy lines. For more than 50 years, they have worked hard to cultivate a place for survival on the deserted riverbed; but with today's trend of land speculation, strange hands are digging into the land they depend on for a living, forming strange and huge potholes...
