Ry Cooder, director Vin Wenders' long-time musical partner, discovered a group of Latin jazz musicians who had been famous locally for many years during a trip to Cuba. Although they were talented, they had been rejected for a long time because they were in a communist country. Out in the world and destitute. The music cassette he recorded opened Wenders' attention to them, so he walked into Havana with simple equipment to record the stories of these old artists. Their innocence and cuteness are also vividly captured in the camera.
