A Taiwan-France co-produced film, based on the true experiences of a French director. Young officer Essa dies due to hazing by senior cadets during a welcoming event at the military academy. His brother Ismail and their mother tirelessly seek accountability from the military authorities, but their demands are continuously evaded, preventing Essa from being properly buried. During the mourning period, Ismail recalls his complex love-hate relationship with his father in Algeria, the growing distance between the brothers after moving to France, and the unforgettable days in Taipei when he visited his brother studying at National Taiwan University, where they unexpectedly rekindled their bond in a foreign land.
