Red Persimmon
1995・Taiwan・169 minutes
A grandmother, mother, ten children, and a housemaid journey from Henan to Taipei after the father is dismissed from his military position, turning their once-military family into commoners. Together, they face the joys and sorrows of daily life, finding new ways to make a living and coexist. As three generations slowly put down roots, the question of how to deal with their homesickness remains. In this semi-autobiographical film, Wang Toon returns to the roots of his own upbringing and history, portraying the life of a military family retreating to Taiwan during the final stages of the Chinese Civil War.
