Grandma's Hairpin
2000・Taiwan・89 minutes
Grandma's silver hairpin is the connection that my father never forgets, and it is also the regret of being unable to return home after leaving home in the war-torn times. Through the eyes of a documentary, director Xiao Juzhen looks back at the veterans who followed the Kuomintang government and came to Taiwan in the 38th year of the Republic of China. They thought they would be able to counterattack the mainland and return to their hometowns soon. Unexpectedly, forty years later, they were the only ones left behind. In this strange yet familiar land, faced with the struggle of identity for home and country... How many people will have to bear the mistakes of history in their lifetime?
