K’s Room–the Creation and Destruction of the World
2020・Taiwan・15 minutes
"New English Grammar" published in 1960 is one of the best-selling English grammar books in Taiwan to this day. However, few people know that the author, Mr. Ke Ci-hua, was arrested and imprisoned for left-leaning thoughts and "rebellion" during the martial law period. This adds up to a total of 17 years. This film extracts grammatical examples from the dictionary and depicts Ke Ci-hua's spiritual world when he was imprisoned in a way that is like deciphering codes. This film won the 2021 Golden Harvest Award for Best Experimental Film and was specially mentioned by the 2022 TIDF Taiwan Competition Jury.
