Blue Island
2022・Hong Kong・97 minutes
The three real figures were marked by history in their respective eras. During the Cultural Revolution, they fled to Hong Kong and smuggled into Hong Kong. They were arrested and imprisoned during the June 7th Riots. They also witnessed the massacre of the city during the Tiananmen Incident. Their scarred memories are replayed by young people who participated in the anti-extradition movement in Hong Kong in 2019. Parallel characters overlap because of Hong Kong's current struggle and chaos. The images flow between documentary and plot, combining archival materials, interviews and behind-the-scenes footage to weave a film of a turbulent era.
